What to Look for in a Baby Monitor

Night Vision

If your baby monitor does not have night vision, you might find yourself worrying most of the night if your baby is safe or not. Night vision is an important quality in a baby monitor to look for.

Good Battery Life

If you’re anything like me, you utilize your baby is now to do other things around the house. Give me about to take the parent unit with you, could be a very important quality to look for in a baby monitor.

High Video Quality

Having high video quality in a baby monitor can help with peace of mind.

High Audio Quality

Just as important as video quality, audio quality should be something that you would want to look for when choosing the best baby monitors.

Wide-Angle Lens (Interchangeable Lens)

As your baby grows,  you may need to change out your lens to a wide-angle lens to see the entire bedroom. This has become extra helpful as my baby turned into a toddler and this allowed me to see him playing in his room.

Room Temperature

You would not believe how often we rely on the room temperature status on our baby monitor to be sure our heat is not too high or too low for our little ones. Again, this gives us peace of mind knowing that the room temperature is safe for our baby’s sleep.

Large Screen

You already find yourself squinting at the parent unit baby monitor screening in the middle of the night. The large screen just makes it that much easier to look at.

Ease of Use

Having a lot of features can be nice, but having a baby monitor that is easy to use is also beneficial.

Wall Mount

If your room isn’t set up to have a baby monitor sitting on a nearby dresser, having a wall mount is needed to see inside your baby’s crib.

Standby Mode

Standby mode is great for saving battery life while your parent unit is in use. This often times let you turn the screen off and just listen out for your baby to save the rechargeable battery.

Long Range

When a baby monitory uses distance for connection versus wifi, you want to find a long-range baby monitor. This will allow you to be further away from the baby without losing video connection. Some monitors go up to 1000 feet plus!

Good Reviews

If you are anything like me, you read multiple reviews before purchasing anything. I recommend doing this for baby monitors as well.

Why to Avoid Wifi Baby Monitors

Safety of Baby Monitor

When I ever heard of people hacking into baby monitors through their wifi, this forever terrified me of owning a baby monitor that uses wifi. Our current baby monitor is non-wifi and uses long range connection so we can watch our children in their beds at night.

Loss of Wifi Connection

In our area where we live, we get very few internet company options, and the ones we have are not that great! We lose our connection sometimes and if the power goes out, then there is no baby monitor.

If your home loses internet and wifi connection often, you may want to consider a non-wifi baby monitor.

Reasons to Choose Baby Monitor with Wifi

Large Home

One reason to choose a baby monitor that connects via wifi is if you have a very large home and you likely will exceed the long-range distance. Connecting a wifi baby monitor would allow you to watch your baby in every room.

Ability to View From Smart Phone/Tablet

The newer baby monitors with Wifi allow you to watch the baby monitor from your smartphone or tablet so you won’t have to carry around a parent unit. You could also watch the cameras at work.
